My journey with feng shui didn't begin with books, or courses, or a teacher sitting across from me in a quiet studio.
It began with my mother.
She never called it feng shui. She never used that word. But looking back now, everything she did — the way she arranged the furniture, the plants she kept near the entrance, the things she refused to bring into the house, the rituals she quietly observed around the home — it was all feng shui. She just lived it, naturally, the way you live something that has been passed down so many times it stops having a name.
This is very much a Filipino story.
The Philippines is a deeply Catholic country, and yet its culture is woven through with Chinese influence — in the food, in the language, in the traditions families carry from generation to generation without always knowing where they came from. Feng shui is one of those things. It found its way into Filipino homes not through study, but through practice. Through mothers and grandmothers who knew, without explanation, that certain arrangements brought ease and others brought tension. That a home could welcome life in — or quietly push it away.
I grew up inside that knowing.
And then, forty years ago, I moved to Sweden.
I carried very little with me — but I carried this. The instinct my mother had given me. The quiet awareness of how a space feels, how energy moves through a room, how the places we inhabit shape the people we become.
In Sweden, something shifted. Away from the familiar, I found myself reaching deeper into what I had always sensed but never fully examined. I began to study — really study — the philosophy, the principles, the ancient wisdom behind what my mother had always simply practiced. I read. I observed. I applied. And year after year, decade after decade, the understanding grew.
What started as a culture became a calling.
What I learned from my mother without words, I have spent forty years learning to put into language — so I can share it with you.

It comes from watching your mother arrange a room. From growing up inside a culture that holds two traditions at once without contradiction. From leaving everything familiar and carrying only what cannot be packed — instinct, awareness, the quiet knowing of how a space feels when you walk into it.
This is where my philosophy begins. Not in a classroom, not in a certification, but in a small home in the Philippines where a woman who never used the word feng shui practiced it every single day.
I. Everything Is Energy
The foundation of everything I teach, create, and share rests on one simple truth: everything is energy.
The room you sleep in. The colors you wear. The objects you keep out of guilt. The relationships you stay in past their time. The content you consume before you close your eyes at night. The words you speak to yourself in the mirror every morning.
None of it is neutral. All of it is shaping you — either toward the life you want, or away from it.
This is not mysticism. It is not superstition. It is the accumulated wisdom of ancient Chinese philosophy, expressed in the language of chi — life force energy — and refined over thousands of years of careful observation of how human beings relate to their environments.
My mother understood this without the language. She felt it. She lived it. And growing up in the Philippines, where Chinese tradition has woven itself into Catholic culture so seamlessly that most families no longer remember the weaving — I absorbed it too. Through her hands rearranging furniture. Through the plants she kept near the entrance. Through the things she would never allow past the front door.
When I moved to Sweden forty years ago, I brought that instinct with me and spent decades transforming it into understanding.
What I learned is this: when your environment supports you, life flows. When it doesn't, everything costs more than it should — more effort, more energy, more of yourself than you can afford to give.

I run a beauty and fashion brand. I create content about glowing up, dressing well, and presenting yourself to the world with confidence and joy. And I also teach feng shui and spiritual wellness.
To some people, these feel like contradictions. They are not.
Beauty, at its deepest level, is not about appearance. It is about intention. It is the deliberate act of saying: I am worth the care I give myself. I am worth the thought I put into how I show up. The colors I wear carry energy. The way I dress in the morning sets the tone for everything that follows.
This is why in Chinese tradition, the way you present your home and the way you present yourself are governed by the same principles. Both are expressions of your relationship with energy. Both either invite life in — or quietly push it away.

III. Wisdom Has No Single Tradition
I am Filipino by birth. Swedish by life. Catholic by faith. A student of Chinese philosophy by calling.
Most people see these as separate categories. I have never experienced them that way.
The Philippines taught me that wisdom travels. It showed me a people who held Catholic devotion and Chinese energy philosophy in the same hands, in the same homes, across generations — not as a compromise, but as a wholeness. That is the Filipino way: to absorb, to adapt, to make something that is entirely its own.
Sweden taught me depth. The long winters. The silence. The particular quality of Nordic light that makes you turn inward, whether you want to or not. Living here for forty years has shaped my practice in ways I could not have anticipated — it has given me patience, and the capacity to sit with what is invisible until it becomes clear.
Chinese philosophy gave me the framework. The language for what I had always felt but could not yet name. The principles of chi, of flow, of the relationship between human beings and the spaces, seasons, and forces that surround them.
My philosophy is not any one of these traditions. It is the conversation between all of them.
And I believe that conversation is exactly what the world needs right now — not purity of tradition, but the courageous practice of holding multiple wisdoms at once, and letting them illuminate each other.
IV. The Home Is the Mirror
If you want to understand someone's inner life, look at their home.
Not whether it is expensive or simple. Not whether it is large or small. But whether it feels alive — or whether it carries the weight of things unfinished, unprocessed, unresolved.
Clutter is not a housekeeping problem. It is a symptom. It tells you where energy is stuck, where decisions have been avoided, where grief or guilt or an old version of yourself is still taking up space.
This is the heart of feng shui as I practice it: not a rigid system of compass directions and lucky numbers, but a living inquiry into the relationship between your inner world and your outer one. The question I always begin with is not "where should your furniture go?" It is: does this space support the person you are becoming?
That question has changed the lives of every person who has sat with it honestly. Including mine.
When I was going through the hardest period of my life, the first thing I did was clear my home. Not because I read about it somewhere. But because something ancient and instinctive in me understood: healing begins with the space you occupy. You cannot grow into a new life while still surrounded by the artifacts of the old one.

Observation is not passive. It is the most active thing I know. It requires presence, and presence is the rarest thing in the world right now.

Why I Do This
Forty years ago I crossed an ocean and built a life in a country that looked nothing like the one I came from.
I did not bring much. But I brought an inheritance — a way of reading spaces, sensing energy, understanding the invisible architecture of a home and a life — that had been passed down to me without words, through the daily practice of a woman who arranged her world with quiet, certain wisdom.
My mother never called it feng shui. She simply lived it. And in the Philippines, where Chinese tradition and Catholic faith have woven together across centuries into something entirely and beautifully Filipino — that is enough. Wisdom does not always need a name to be real.
But I wanted to understand it more deeply. I wanted to go beyond instinct into knowledge. Beyond feeling into language. So I studied. Year after year, decade after decade, through the long Nordic winters and the particular kind of solitude that comes from living between two cultures — I went deeper.
What I found confirmed everything my mother had always known. And it gave me tools I did not have before.
I do this because I believe that wisdom — real, lived, tested wisdom — should not stay locked inside one person, one family, one tradition. It should move. It should reach the people who need it. It should find its way into the homes and lives and hearts of women who are trying to build something beautiful and do not yet have the language for what they are feeling.
That is why Ophiria Observes exists. That is why Feng Shui Insights by Ophiria exists. That is why I show up, every week, to share what I know.
What I Believe Every Person Deserves
I believe every human being deserves to live in a home that supports them.
Not a perfect home. Not an expensive home. A home that works for them — energetically, emotionally, practically. A home where the chi flows freely, where rest is genuinely restful, where creativity is invited in and stagnation is gently shown the door.
I believe every woman deserves to understand the energy she carries — in her body, in her wardrobe, in the way she moves through the world. Not to perform beauty, but to inhabit it. I believe every seeker deserves a guide who does not ask them to abandon what they already believe in order to learn something new. I have never asked my Catholic faith to make room for feng shui. They have always coexisted in me, as they coexisted in my mother, as they coexist in the Filipino culture I come from. Wisdom is not a competition. Truth, wherever it is found, does not contradict itself.
And I believe every person who is going through something hard — illness, loss, transition, the quiet collapse of a life that no longer fits — deserves to know that healing has a physical dimension. That the space you occupy matters. That clearing a room is not avoidance — it is action. That sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is open a window, move a piece of furniture, and let new energy in.
Who I Am Here For

I grew up in the Philippines in a home run by a woman of extraordinary quiet certainty. My mother never read a book about feng shui. She never attended a course or consulted a practitioner or used any of the language I have spent forty years learning. She simply knew — in the way that people know things that have been passed down through generations without ever being formally taught — how a home should feel, how energy should move, what belonged inside a space and what did not.
The Philippines gave her this. It gives it to many Filipinos, though most do not recognise it by name. Our culture is one of the most beautifully layered in the world — Catholic faith woven together with Chinese tradition across centuries of history, trade, and migration, until the two became so intertwined that most families practice both without thinking of them as separate things at all. Feng shui in the Philippines is not a discipline. It is simply culture. It is the way your grandmother arranged the furniture. The way your mother chose which plants to keep near the front door. The things no one in your family would ever bring into the house, though no one could quite explain why.
I was raised inside that knowing. And then, forty years ago, I left it.
I moved to Sweden. I built a life in a country that could not have been more different from the one I came from — different climate, different culture, different light, different silence. And in that new life, far from everything familiar, I began to reach back. To study. To take the instinct my mother had given me and trace it all the way to its roots — the ancient Chinese philosophy of chi and flow and the relationship between human beings and their environments. To understand not just what she had always done, but why it worked.
What I found in those years of study — and in the forty years since — confirmed everything. And it showed me something else. Something that became the seed of this vision.
